Pinkishe Foundation organized a Menstrual hygiene literacy workshop at Rose Presentation School, Lasjan, Srinagar, Kashmir on 20th August. Menstruation is not openly talked about in families or at schools, perpetuating an environment of shame and secrecy which further encourages period-related absenteeism.
So our facilitator, Ms Mir Aroosa conducted an in depth session regarding the intricacies of menstruation and hygiene for the students of 6th, 7th and 8th classes. They were educated about the reproductive system and how the menstrual cycle works.
Misinformation often leads to girls using unhygienic methods like dirty rags, leaves, sand or ash in periods. The inappropriate management of menstruation has a negative impact on the education of girls as it may risk their health. All students were encouraged that there is nothing shameful or impure about periods and they are free to talk about it without hesitation, educating them the right to sanitation and good menstrual hygiene.
